Vision Statement
The Little Egg Harbor Environmental Commission is comprised of community volunteers that are passionate about improving the quality of life for our residents by protecting our unique environment, educating the youth and community on sustainable habits and different ecosystems, along with supporting all activities in the community that impact protection, use, and restoration of natural resources and open space.
Goals and Objectives
Little Egg Harbor Township Environmental Commission is a team of 9 appointed citizens who are committed to the protection, development and use of natural resources within the township.
Accomplishments:
- Little Egg Harbor Township has achieved Bronze Status with Sustainable Jersey. This is awarded to municipalities who fulfill environmentally friendly goals in a given year.
- Conducting town wide clean-ups
- Held 1st Green Fair
- Terrapin awareness poster contest with 2nd grade students
- Present Environmental Hero award yearly
Future Goals:
- Achieve Silver Status with Sustainable Jersey.
- Educate the public about protecting the environment and creating a sustainable planet
Other Little Egg Harbor Township Green Initiatives
- Electric vehicle charging station at the Municipal Complex
- Community Garden at the Senior Center
- Solar powered light at Freedom Fields
- 2 day township wide Yard Sale every July
- Giffordstown Bog Wetlands Restoration at Pinelands High School
Environmental Commission meetings are held at the Little Egg Harbor Municipal Building.
