Chapter XI of the Township Code regulates the excavation of streets and other municipal right-of-ways. It is necessary to obtain a permit from the Department of Public Works prior to excavating any public road or right-of-way. If you are connecting to natural gas the gas company typically makes application on your behalf.
The application fee is $125 for the first fifty (50) feet to be excavated and an additional $100 for each and every additional fifty (50) feet or portion thereof. In the case of excavations that exceed sixteen square feet (16ft2) or four (4) feet deep, the applicant must furnish a cash or surety bond, in an amount to be determined by the Municipal Engineer, to guarantee that the opening or trench made by the applicant will be closed properly.
Sidewalk maintenance and repair is the obligation of adjoining homeowners and commercial establishments. If you intend to complete sidewalk repairs or reconstruction you should contact the Construction Office and obtain a permit.
The Little Egg Harbor Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA) is responsible for water and sanitary sewer related matters. The MUA is an independent agency and operates under its own bylaws and procedures. You can contact the MUA by calling 609-296-1168. The MUA is subject to the Sunshine Law and Open Public Records Act. All requests for documents should be made directly to the MUA Executive Director.
