Application Guidelines & Tips

We receive hundreds of employment applications every year which has given us a great deal of experience in screening employee candidates from their written applications. Here are some tips that may help increase your chances for successfully completing the initial screening process.

TIP #1: We will not accept your resume in lieu of a completed application but you may supplement our standard application with your resume. Your qualifications will not be screened in the absence of a completed employment application.

TIP #2: Take your time in completing all questions on the employment application. We will not screen your qualifications if your employment application is incomplete.

TIP#3: The employment application is your first opportunity to present yourself to representatives of Little Egg Harbor Township who will screen your qualifications. Applications that are not legible or contain spelling errors reflect negatively on you. Read each question very carefully and take your time in preparing responses!

TIP #4: Respond to every question honestly. Do not overstate your qualifications or misrepresent your background and education. Gaps in employment history should be explained thoroughly. State of New Jersey civil service regulations provide that any false statement of any material fact (including educational and employment record) or any deception or fraud in any part of the selection or appointment process will be grounds for disqualification and possible legal action.

TIP #5: Use additional sheets of paper if necessary to complete your responses. Do not avoid giving a complete answer because there may be insufficient space on the application form.

TIP #6: Once your application materials are submitted to us please do not contact the Personnel Office to schedule an interview. Applications will be screened and only those persons whose experience and qualifications best meet our needs and the applicable job specification will be invited for an interview. We will contact you by mail to advise whether you have been selected for an interview.

TIP #7: You must sign your application where indicated. Unsigned applications will not be reviewed.
