Little Egg Harbor Township is a civil service (also known as the merit system) jurisdiction regulated by the New Jersey Department of Personnel (NJDOP).
Law enforcement positions and most clerical positions are filled through a competitive examination process. Click here for information about the 2002 Law Enforcement Examination.

Both examinations are administered by NJDOP.
In anticipation of law enforcement and most clerical position vacancies the Personnel Office will request a certified list of eligible candidates from NJDOP. Candidates are recruited from certified lists. Click here for additional information about employment lists and certifications. It is important that you take the applicable examination by NJDOP in order to be considered for a law enforcement or clerical position with Little Egg Harbor Township.
Some advanced clerical positions are not part of the CAP and are filled through an open competitive examination process. Click here to review current open competitive examinations being administered by NJDOP for appointing authorities throughout the State of New Jersey.
Only a few entry-level positions are not subject to a competitive examination. Candidates for these positions are recruited directly from applications received as a result of the vacancy notices published online.
Little Egg Harbor Township has a residency requirement. However, in limited circumstances we will open the recruitment to residents of Ocean County in order to increase the pool of most qualified candidates. If you are not a resident of the jurisdiction listed in the “Open to Residents of” field in the vacancy announcement, you will be disqualified.
