Office of the Municipal Clerk

Open Public Records Act

The New Jersey State Legislature adopted major revisions to the state’s open public records law on January 8, 2002 (P.L. 2001, c. 404). The new law reflects a significant shift in public policy by creating a presumption that most local government records are public records. However, certain documents, such as personnel files and medical information, remain protected and are not subject to public inspection.

The Municipal Clerk’s Office is responsible for distributing and accepting the official Public Records Request Form and for overseeing that requests for public records receive priority attention.

More information, including a downloadable Public Records Request Form, is available at the Legal Services page.

Special Assessments

Two public projects currently are being financed by the Special Assessment Program.

  • The Atlantis Water/Sewer Project is an MUA sponsored water and sewer infrastructure construction project in the area of Plantation Drive, Colonial Drive, Champions Drive and Greenbriar Drive.

  • The Cherrywood Drive Drainage Improvement and Overlay Project is a Little Egg Harbor Township project.

Both projects are being financed (separately) through a municipal bond that will be paid down from the proceeds of a special assessment levied against each property that benefited from the improvements. Taxpayers at large are not responsible for paying down the debt.

Special Event Permits

A special event permit is necessary to reserve use of public facilities and public property such as park areas. A special event permit is also necessary for parades, boat races, foot races, coin tosses, outdoor weddings on public property, and open assemblies.

In most cases, approval will be conditioned upon submission of an acceptable liability insurance certificate (naming Little Egg Harbor Township as an additional insured on the applicant’s policy), satisfactory review by the Police Department, and satisfactory review by either the internal Safety Committee or the risk management consultant appointed by Little Egg Harbor Township.
