Property maintenance regulations are an integral tool for enforcing maintenance and upkeep of local properties. The regulations place the responsibility for maintenance and upkeep primarily upon each property owner even if the property owner does not reside in the municipality. Little Egg Harbor Township takes an aggressive approach toward addressing and correcting property maintenance violations but the Code Enforcement Officer applies fairness and objectivity and works with most property owners and residents toward a positive “win-win” outcome.
The Code Enforcement Office is responsible for helping maintain the quality of life in Little Egg Harbor Township by addressing maintenance of grass, weeds, trees, shrubs, trash, building exteriors, fences and boat and vehicle storage.
Property owners and residents who violate municipal quality of life ordinances are notified to correct the violation and comply with the regulations. Most residents are understanding and helpful. Unfortunately, it is sometimes necessary to enforce the regulations in Municipal Court after the issuance of a formal complaint and summons.
